Nexus is one of the best premium WordPress themes that you can find. It was released in late 2013 by Elegant Themes. The most important reason that Nexus is so impressive is that you have the ability to show off a lot of content to your readers and you can do this in a plethora of different ways. The best thing about using the Nexus theme is that it also eliminates the use of plugins because it has so many built-in features. So if you’re thinking about signing up for Elegant Themes, Nexus will give you lots of reasons to sign up.
At a glance here are some of the features that stand out to me:
- Perpetual Updates
- Secure and Valid Code
- Browser Compatibility
- Complete Localization
- Advertisement Areas
- Unparalleled Support
- Homepage Builder
- Unlimited Colors
- Custom Widgets
- Page Templates
- Shortcodes
- Responsive Design (Mobile Friendly)
- Page Templates
- Lots of theme options
Now, I’m going to go into further details about some of the key features.
Nexus Theme Features
Nexus has a very easy to use homepage builder which lets you add not one, not two but four different types of content widgets and you can add them any number of times you like. It’s very easy to use, and you just have to choose the categories from which you want to display the posts. Here is a screenshot of the “homepage settings”:
Recent Posts from All or a Single Category
Recent Posts in the most simple manner can be displayed using two options. The All Categories feature lets you display all the recent posts from any category. And you can also choose the number of posts that you want to display.
The Recent Post from a single category allows you to show only posts from a single category. Again, you can control the number of posts that you want to show.
Recent Posts from Several Categories
The Recent Posts from several categories allows you to display posts from multiple categories all at once. The widget works in a similar way to how tabbed content works. But instead of installing the plugin Shortcodes Ultimate it’s all there out of the box!
Popular Posts
The Nexus theme also has a great popular posts widget with jQuery effects. You can control how many posts appear on the homepage and also the time range for the popularity. It is awesome for the post that you have written which get a lot of feedback and social interaction. For sites I have developed over the years I use this on questions or how-to’s that I have answer thousands of times. You can see down below that they look rather attractive and professional:
Recent Reviews
The theme also supports showing off your recent reviews along with the ratings you have provided for each review. It looks beautiful and is bound to make your readers read the reviews. What I like about this is you don’t have to install another rating plugin, and it’s fully interactive. I have seen premium rating themes go for $19, $39, and even $99. Here is a look at the ratings:
Featured Posts
The Nexus theme also has a great looking featured posts area which you can use to show off your most impressive posts. The featured area has some nice visual effects when you hover your mouse over it, and the readers are sure to take notice of it. Down below is a screenshot of what it looks like.
Posts Widgets
Other than this, the Nexus theme also has a great looking post widget that shows your most recent, popular and random posts from within your site. It eliminates the need for a special plugin that is required for all these functions. You can have it show recent, popular, and random. Down below is a screenshot of it.
Video Posts
Nexus Theme supports two formats of posts. One is standard, and another is video. The video format is meant for when you add videos to the posts. There is also a special widget that specifically lets you show off your video posts and is very eye pleasing. It integrates nicely with YouTube or videos that you have uploaded to your media folder.
Page Templates
Other than these, Nexus also has many different types of page templates. Most impressive of them are the Image Gallery template and the Portfolio template.
The Portfolio template lets you display all the recent projects that you have worked on or the recent success you or your company had. You can either view them as small, medium, or large.
Shortcodes
With shortcodes, you have eight different options. Here are the integrated shortcodes you can use:
- Buttons
- Content Boxes
- Toggled Content
- Tagged Content
- Slideshow
- Image Slider
- Easy Tooltips
- Social Media Integration
All in all, Nexus is an excellent theme that you should highly consider purchasing. If you’re new to the Elegant Themes framework you’ll be pleasantly surprised! There is certainly a lot of customization you can do with it. It comes with all kinds of documentation that will teach you how to do everything you want and more. So, make sure you check out the Nexus theme.
