My site is live again as I had them upgrade me right away but I will definitely be changing hosts. I’m researching others out to find one that will fit my needs. I’ll check out inMotion too. Appreciate the suggestion!

Will they allow you access to your FTP so you can get all your files and migrate to another hosting company? A lot of time they will delete your account after 30 days before closing your account. So make sure you don’t wait too long.

It’s fine if you are using too many resources for their server, but you should be able to have access to your files.

I do use InMotion for this website. It runs great and I have been using them for 7+ years now.

They would only reactivate if I moved to a VPS so I had to do that. It will not cost me $100 a month whereas before I was paying $24. Not happy with how they handled this at all. Plus I learned that’s pretty high. Been researching and talking on other forums and I think I can get one for around $40 a month. I only have between 700 and 1000 unique visitors a day with occasional peaks around 2000. Thanks for the link! I’ll look that over. My site does run a bit slow and I need to get that taken care of.

I would ask them to reactivate your website so that you can troubleshoot the problem. How much traffic is your website getting per day? Once, your site is active view my GTMetrix post which can help you see what is using so many resources.

I remember the days of crashing their servers. It was not a fun experience. Not a fan of Hostgator, but be careful because they do limit their shared plans to 25 processes. These open and shut on your site in a matter of seconds. If you have 2 or 3 decent sized sites, it eats up those processes very quickly. Once you exceed 2 GB of monthly bandwidth, you really need to consider getting a VPS.

Try to clean up your server and remove content in the public_html folder. These little files can really cause your inode limit to rise quickly. I believe the inode limit with Hostgator is 100,000. Take about 40 minutes every month and clean up files and backups that you don’t need. You can always download them and store them on a DVD or external hard drive.

The actual limit can vary from host to host, but you can get a decent VPS with InMotionhosting.com for $14/month. Hope this helps.

So what I did was install WP Super Cache, removed thousands of old emails, and changed my MX records to Gmail. I also removed 3 MySQL databases which cut down my resource usage. I’m getting more and more traffic and they haven’t suspended my site in 6 weeks now. Do you know the actual limit before I will have to upgrade to a VPS server though?
