LinkedIn is a place for business. However, a lot of people or businesses still ignore it, even though it has 250+ million members. LinkedIn is a place where you can truly show your work and experience. You also have proof because of the endorsements you get for your different skills from your fellow members. Think of it as an online resume.
But if you’re running some kind of business it is always a good idea to create a separate business page. In fact, when you go on to create a business page, you will observe that you are presented with more options to highlight than what you get while creating a Facebook page or a Google+ page. Obviously, if your running a business you need to have a LinkedIn page.
Setting Up The Page
The first thing that you’re going to have to do is choose the type of company that you own, the company size, url of the company website, the year founded and the industry that the company belongs to. This is pretty much self explanatory and you shouldn’t have to much trouble putting in the necessary data.
Company Type
LinkedIn actually gives you a lot of options when it comes to creating company pages. The Company type options actually has about 8 options ranging from Public Company, Educational, Self-Employed, Non-profit, Privately held etc.
Company size and URL
Next comes your company size. It is simply a representation of the number of employees in your company.
The lowest starts from ‘myself only’ applicable you’re the only person in your company. In this case your company will be represented as “Sole Proprietorship”. The other options include a number of ranges according to the number of employees which starts from 2-10 and goes up to 10001+.
There’s also a place to fill up your company url where you point it to your company website which will again contain information about your company.
Industry, Operating Status and Year Founded
While choosing the industry, make sure you choose the industry that is best applicable to your company. Otherwise, it could confuse your readers and it would look a little strange to see a company on finances in the entertainment category. Just use your head and try to put it in the correct category . Brand development is everything when it comes to running a business, and make sure you keep that in mind every step of the way.
In company status you can choose the status of the company like whether it’s operating currently, or has been acquired etc.
Company Name and Company Description
Add your company name and a detailed company description to let the readers know what your company does exactly. The description should give an overall description of your company’s products and services. Try to be professional about how you word it. Make sure there are no typos or mistakes.
Image and Logo
Make sure you have an attractive looking image to describe your company. The image is similar to the cover page in Facebook and Google+.
Also, make sure to include the logo that represents your brand. The logo is the unique identifier of your brand and it should be clearly visible.
- Group Logo – no more than 100 x 50 pixels, the maximum file size 100KB, PNG/JPEG/GIF format
- Small Logo – no more than to 60 x 30 pixels, the maximum file size 100KB, PNG/JPEG/GIF format
- Hero Image – no more than 646 x 200 pixels, the maximum size 2 MB, PNG/JPEG/GIF format
Company Specialities
There’s also a section called the company specialities which you can feature the popular services or products that you have.
Products and Services
The products and services has been specifically created to promote your services. Below is the screenshot of the page which you can promote your company’s stuff.
When you’re done with all the steps, you will have one of the best LinkedIn business pages for your company. Then it’s up to you to actively participate on LinkedIn to help grow your business.
